Our Monastery – January 2021

Guest House. In the previous issue we mentioned a first larger project of the monastery: the renewal of the guest house. The parishioners of St. Nicholas Church in Queens, NY also contributed to this project. We thank them and we pray that God may reward their sacrifice.

Seraphim. A liturgical object found in monasteries in Romania but which was missing from our monastery is the Seraphim: a wooden (sculpted) representation of a Seraphim with six wings, lifted through a system of pulleys above the Royal Doors, with two candle holders and a hanging vigil lamp. The candles in the holders are lit at certain times during church services, for example, during the Holy Liturgy. The Seraphim was carved by the fathers of Putna Monastery.

Candles. The church of our monastery was adorned with two silver vigil lamps: one placed before the Mother of God in front of the iconostasis and the other to be hung from the Seraphim. We thank the donors: the families of Adrian and Dana Pala, and Mircea and Silvia Mone.

Lord, bless those who love the adornment of Your house!

Saint Paraskeva. With the support of a few pious Christians, we also managed to paint an icon with Saint Paraskeva for the church of our monastery. Also, at the request of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae, Metropolitan Teofan of Moldavia and Bukovina gave our monastery an embroidered blue garment that covered for a while the Holy Relics of our Venerable Mother Paraskeva of Iași. Until a reliquary will be made for it, St. Paraskeva’s garment was placed for veneration in the church next to the garment of St. Demetrius the New.

We thank our good God, Saint Paraskeva, and our hierarchs for the great gift given to our monastery!

Icons. With the blessing of His Eminence Nicolae, printed icons are mounted to wood in our monastery. They can be found on the monastery’s website, at:
https://www.sfdumitru.org/index.php/ro/pangar/icoane
We can also make custom icons.

Pure beeswax candles. Pure beeswax candles are also made in our monastery to adorn the prayer of every Christian. A pure wax candle burning during private or church prayer is a sacrifice pleasing to God.
