Cum ne vom m\u00e2ng\u00e2ia pe noi \u00een\u0219ine, cei mai mari uciga\u0219i dintre uciga\u0219i? Cine va \u0219terge acest s\u00e2nge de pe noi? \u201d Cuvintele lui Nietzsche sunt un r\u0103spuns la Iluminism, o perioad\u0103 \u00een care cultura a \u00eenclinat c\u0103tre \u00eencrederea \u00een sine \u0219i importan\u021ba omului, mai degrab\u0103 dec\u00e2t a lui Dumnezeu, \u0219i prin urmare ne-a condus c\u0103tre mult\u0103, mult\u0103 m\u00e2ndrie. Argumentul adus cel mai des \u00een discu\u021bie atunci c\u00e2nd se \u00eencearc\u0103 negarea existen\u021bei lui Dumnezeu se nume\u0219te \u201eProblema r\u0103ului\u201d, \u0219i spune: \u201eDac\u0103 Dumnezeu este bun, atot\u0219tiutor \u0219i atotputernic, de ce ar \u00eeng\u0103dui s\u0103 existe r\u0103ul \u00een lume?\u201d<\/p><p>Este o \u00eentrebare la care un teist sau un filozof educat poate r\u0103spunde destul de repede, ambii \u00een acela\u0219i mod: avem nevoie de \u00eencerc\u0103ri \u0219i necazuri pentru a deveni oameni mai buni. Avem nevoie de r\u0103u pentru a \u00een\u021belege binele, a\u0219a cum avem nevoie de \u00eentuneric pentru a \u00een\u021belege lumina, pentru c\u0103 binele \u0219i r\u0103ul sunt no\u021biuni comparative. At\u00e2t cre\u0219tinii, c\u00e2t \u0219i filozofii vor argumenta c\u0103 Dumnezeu a permis s\u0103 existe r\u0103ul ca s\u0103 \u00een\u021belegem cum s\u0103 fim buni. \u0218i se poate merge mai departe spun\u00e2nd c\u0103 r\u0103ul poate duce la \u0219i mai multe lucruri bune, pe care o lume f\u0103r\u0103 r\u0103u nu le-ar avea. Uneori, filozoful se \u00een\u0219al\u0103 crez\u00e2nd c\u0103 el sau ea au aflat adev\u0103rul, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 \u00een\u021beleag\u0103 c\u0103 noi \u00een permanen\u021b\u0103 tindem c\u0103tre aflarea lui. De aceea mi se pare ciudat c\u00e2nd \u00eei aud pe unii dintre membrii parohiei mele f\u0103c\u00e2nd asta, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 priveasc\u0103 imaginea de ansamblu sau f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 se \u00eentrebe \u201eOare ce nu \u00een\u021beleg? Care este lucrul pe care eu, \u0219i cei despre care am fost \u00eenv\u0103\u021bat c\u0103 sunt \u00eempotriva mea, \u00eel caut\u0103m?\u201d<\/p><p>Aceast\u0103 reprezentare deformat\u0103 a unor domenii m-a f\u0103cut s\u0103 fiu at\u00e2t de speriat\u0103 la g\u00e2ndul c\u0103 nu mi-a\u0219 putea g\u0103si calea \u2013 este o fric\u0103 neproductiv\u0103, de care m-am l\u0103sat cuprins\u0103 \u00een loc s\u0103 m\u0103 \u00eencred \u00een Dumnezeu. Domeniul filozofiei m-a f\u0103cut s\u0103 \u00een\u021beleg c\u0103 Dumnezeu poate fi g\u0103sit oriunde, chiar \u0219i acolo unde ni s-a spus c\u0103 sunt cele mai pu\u021bine \u0219anse s\u0103-L g\u0103sim.
